From Library Journal This survivor's manual for the college student covers every aspect of college except choosing a field of study. In a no-nonsense style using a topical arrangement of problems and solutions, Edelstein ( College: A Survivor's Manual , LJ 10/1/85) leads the student through a maze of difficulties beginning with the application process. His solutions are based on many years of experience as a student, intern, and teacher. The value in the book is in the way it empowers the student, promoting the fact that college consumers play a substantial role in the quality of their education. On the other hand, students will find Edelstein's recommended degree of thoroughness and persistence hard to achieve. His advice is practical, but should be taken with a grain of salt.
