Of necessity its scope has been limited to<br >sites and events close to the river.<br > Significant new information and more than seventy<br >additional photographs have been added to this edition.<br > While not intended as a guide for getting down the<br >river， the Forest Service chart with information on river<br >rapids has been included as a convenience for some read-<br >ers.<br > Our hope is that by providing this history we may<br >contribute in a small way to the preservation of the past<br >and thereby fulfill a responsibility to the future.<br > Please refrain from removing any article or artifact<br >from sites in the canyon.
