“One Country, Two Systems” in Taiwan
Author: Hsing Chi (紀欣) Translator: Sheng-Wei Wang (王勝煒)
Author: Hsing Chi, born and educated in Taiwan, earned a Juris Doctor in the U.S and became a member of the California Bar Association. After her return to Taiwan in 1989, she became Associate Professor of the School of Law at Soochow University, Chairperson of the Taipei Awakening Association, and twice Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of China. She is now a co-partner of Hsieh, Chi & Hsieh Law Offices in Taipei, an editor of the Strait Review Monthly, and Vice President of the Alliance for the Reunification of China in Taiwan. She is the author of several Chinese books, including Women and Politics—the Women’s Movement in Taiwan in the 1990’s (2000), Family Law in the United States (2002), Life and Death: Discussion on the Legal Aspects of Euthanasia and Death Penalty (2003), “One Country, Two Systems” in Taiwan (2003), “One Country, Two Systems” in Taiwan, the New Edition (2004), The Shock of the Enactment of the “Anti-Secession Law” (2005) and Analyzing the “Ma Ying-jeou Phenomenon” (2006).
Translator: Sheng-Wei Wang, born in Taiwan, is a Ph.D. physicist-doing many years of scientific research and a self-made California real-estate developer. She is now the President of the China-U.S. Friendship Exchange, Inc. She turned political only after being intrigued by the March 19, 2004 shooting incident in Taiwan. She wrote a JFK-conspiracy-exposé arguing that Chen Shui-bian’s minor skin wound must have been staged and that has made her a well-known Chinese-American media figure. While she was still Vice President of the organization Chinese for Peaceful Unification-Northern California, she wrote the CPU-USA Newsletter to the U.S. Congressional Members. She has co-translated The Bulletgate: The Shot that Raped Taiwan Democracy and assisted in the translation of Taiwan at the Cross Roads: An Exposé of Taiwan’s New Dictatorship (2006). She now resides in Hong Kong and just completed an English-language book: Say “No” to “China Threat” Theory (to be published in 2007).
