Written for a semester course in number theory, this book contains more expository material than most texts on the subject. While maintaining rigor, proofs are treated in a more gradual style than the usual terse manner of presentation. Most of the chap- ters are virtually independent of each other and can be covered in any sequence. Introduction to Number Theory begins with three chapters that can be covered rapidly by students who have had a course in intro- ductory modern algebra, or they can be treated in greater detail for students with a weaker background in mathematics.
