We are pleased to present the Year 2004 edition of Want s Federal-State Court
Directory, one of two titles in our annual Your Nation s Courts SeriesTM.
The other title in the series is Directory of State Court Clerks & County
Courthouses. The former focuses on the federal courts; the latter on state and
county courts. For more information and order forms, please visit our website,
www.courts.com.
The primary purpose of the series is to provide a comprehensive yet easy-to-
use listing of the nation s courts plus federal and state enforcement officials.
Now in its 29th year, Your Nation s Courts Series has become the nation s
most widely-used court reference source.
Also available is our online subscription service, Your Nation s Courts
OnlineTM, which offers point-and-click access to the nation s federal, state, and
county courts plus frequent updates plus judicial nominations, confirmations,
biographical information and many additional features. For more information
please visit our website, www.courts.com.
A listing of federal court libraries is included in the "U.S. Appellate Courts"
section of this directory (beginning on page 6).
Also, please note the State Court Organization Charts, which begin on page
153 below. These charts, in addition to providing a quick overview of each State s
judicial system, also include such useful listings as State judiciary websites, State
supreme court justices, supreme court clerks, State court administrators, and State
attorneys general.
WANT Publishing Co. wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the
Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (Washington, D.C.) and the federal court
clerks and state court administrators who have offered considerable assistance in the
year-to-year updating of Your Nation s Courts Series. Our thanks also to the
National Center for State Courts (Williamsburg, VA), on whose research the state
court organization charts are in part based. The material for the Year 2004 editions
was compiled primarily during the period April through August 2003.
A major secondary purpose is that of a reference guide to the federal and
state judicial systems and how they operate. This is accomplished through charts, a
glossary of terms, and other explanatory material. Court websites are included.
