Another useful book from Bentley, this completes her trilogy of genealogical ready-reference ( County Courthouse Book , Genealogical Pub., 1990; The Genealogist s Address Book , LJ 1/91). An A-Z directory of 5000 family associations in the United States, it provides current addresses, phone numbers, contact persons, and publications. It is a much-needed, current resource for identifying U.S. family associations. As the ultimate query forum, the book will facilitate communications among researchers, help determine what research has already been done and published on a family, and identify markets for genealogies. It will greatly assist planning for family reunions, contacting lost family members, or searching for missing heirs. Though based largely on information from questionnaires Bentley sent out, the book has additional details from family history journals and newsletters. The publisher plans to revise annually. A CD-ROM version would be valuable. Bentley gets high marks for generous and professional use of cross references, greatly easing the pitfalls of variant spelling of names. She regrets the omission of problem entries, but invites additions; and she refers researchers to the Family Registry compiled by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and available on microfiche at Family History Centers throughout the world. This book will greatly interest both the library and home market; for institutions with genealogical collections, it is essential.
