Neo-expressionisms - Abstractions
The twelve artists of the present volume exemplify, among other artists, the process of transformation of painting in Galicia during the last twenty years of the 20th century, having as starting point the Atlantic horizon, which defines the Galieian insertion in the international frame, as much as its involvement in the new post- modern aesthetics conscience that develops after 1980. And when we talk about Atlantism we refer to a whole generation of artists that appear at the beginning of the eighties. Thus, then, the most appropriate referential framework of the eclosion of all of them takes places at the heart of a society that hoped to become part of Europe and its modernity, after the long years of Franco’s regime: from that will, it rises the linguistic modernization while in Europe appeared the most interesting aesthetic models as an answer to a crisis of references, after the linearity of avant-gardes that came to an end during the seventies. These artistes manage to establish, with their projectual look, a model and intimate development what painting has been during the last quarter of the century, in the limits of an experience that tells the ups and downs of their pleasant recovery from the neo-expressionist eighties, which were free from avant-garde prejudices and disideologized, to a more ideologized current situation that is committed to the world where they have to live.
