铃木清对制作摄影集非常讲究，亲自设计自费出版。本书首版为1972年自费出版，目前能买到的为英文复刻版，保留了最初版本极强的手工感，照片旁时常可见作者的批注和手绘记号。铃木清认为表现精神范畴的摄影只能用黑白照片。他的摄影追求纯美学意义，同时兼顾个体的社会感。
