Mathematics in Context is a comprehensive curriculum for the middle grades. The National Science
Foundation funded the National Center for Research in Mathematical Sciences Education at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison to develop and field-test the materials from 1991 through 1996. The Freudenthal Institute
at the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands~ as a subcontractor, collaborated with the University of
Wisconsin-Madison on the development of the curriculum.
The initial version of More or Less was developed by Ronald Keijzer, Maria van den Heuvel-Panhuizen, and
Monica Wijers. It was adapted for use in American schools by Julia A. Shew, Laura Brinker, Margaret A. PIigge,
Mary Shafer, and Jonathan Brendefur.
