While in Paris as a young man, Huidobro established relationships with Reverdy, Apollinaire, and other major French poets, and collaborated with several of them. In Spain and upon his return to Chile, he developed an interchange with Gerardo Diego, Juan Larrea, and Jorge Luis Borges, which led to his establishment of Ultraism, which, in turn, would influence many poets, including the Argentine, Oliverio Girondo. These important manifestos were written in Paris in the 1920s, at the height of Huidobro's experimentalism.
