when Brad Axx heads his beloved jet-
black 1961 Lincoln Continental for
Florida, he s looking to get away from it all, if
only for a few weeks--away from the pointless
flak he s been catching from his bosses at the
NYPD, away from a life of doing his job the
best he can and getting kicked in the teeth for it,
and most of all, from the pain of his failure to
find his wife s murderer.
But when Axx arrives in the Sunshine State,
there are no white sand beaches and bathing
beauties to greet him. Still, the whiskey bottle
and dingy motel room in the middle of nowhere
strike him as just about right. Kristin McCauley
is just about right, too-so right that Axx is
beginning
to wonder if he might be in love again.
She s even got him thinking about settling down
here and buying property-from her, of course,
since she s in the property business.
Unfortunately, this idyllic future is not meant
to be. In fact, Brad Axx won t have very long at
all to enjoy his new-found contentment, espe-
cially not with Kristin. First, she turns up dead of
a cocaine overdose, and then her replacement in
the real estate biz turrtg up on Brad s doorstep
with some unsettling stories to tell.
