Japanese architect Kengo Kuma is the second winner of the Spirit of Nature Wood Architecture Award. Many of Kengo Kumas works are characterised by a refined use of wood and a profound understanding of its nature as a building material. 'He has successfully combined new and traditional elements to produce architecture that is completely modern, while still sensitively and carefully adapted to existing surroundings', says Gunnel Adlercreutz, Chairman of the Jury. This book presents the main works of Kengo Kuma, showing in particular how he uses wood in his architecture. The book features built projects only, the most recent of which is the 'Bamboo Wall' (2002) in Beijing, China, a unique philosophical work constructed in bamboo.
