murdered, Chase Randel inherits a share
in a half-started development project and
the dead man s beautiful ex-wife as a
partner. Turning a deserted downtown
building into a chic nightspot promises
Chase, a wisecracking, lone-wolf broker, a
quick half-million dollar profit and instant
respectability.
But a lot of people in town have other
plans for the building and aren t afraid to
throw around a tittle muscle. As the action
heats up, Chase s partner gets cold feet,
and Chase, an ex-alcoholic, wants to reach
for the bottle of Jack Dauiels on his shelf.
The growing shadow of a bad-luck
building and its thirty-year-old secrets
threaten not only Chase s big deal but also
his life. Chase is caught in the cressfire
between big-time developers, a shrill anti-
growth lobby, and a clan of offshore Asian
money brokers.
His friend, the former owner, believed in
the old building, and he paid with his life.
