Excitement seemed to follow
Sgt. Rosher despite his box-toed
shoes, his big brown teeth, and the
black hat that rode low over his
simian brow. And he was (hadn t he
proved it on the Avenger case,

television coverage?) a good, if
rather plodding, policeman.
But then they suddenly saddled
him (no doubt thinking he d con-
sider it a favor) with a young Ameri-
can policeman, Patrolman Hopper,
who d been shipped to England

British police system.
Rosher took young Hopper
grudgingly in tow. Then, while
on a preliminary tour of the coun-
tryside, they stopped on a hill to
admire the view and found they
were looking at more than just scen-
ery. Rosher, who had his binoc-
ulars with him, saw something
