Parenting Skills is a complete set of modules for conducting
Parent Training Groups. The program is constructed to allow
the trainer to run workshops from 6 to 22 sessions in length.
Each session is approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes. Every mod-
ule specifies its objectives and the parenting skills to be cov-
ered. A number of the modules may be used for single presen-
tations to PTA, Day Care and other civic groups. The modules
are written in a script format with stage directions. They may
also be used in a less structured manner as an outline for each
session. Homework ideas and assignments are provided for
most sessions. The content of the program is based on an inte-
gration of Client-Centered Psychology, Rational-Emotive Psy-
chology and Behavioristic Psychology.
The Workbook is designed to assist the parents and parent
surrogates in matering the ideas and skills presented in the
weekly workshop. Each week s homework in the Workbook
contains four parts: (1) a review of the ideas and skills present-
ed in the workshop; (2) examples of the ideas and skills in prac-
tice; (3) practice exercises; (4) an assignment involving the use
of the ideas and skills presented. It should be noted that the
Workbook is an integral part of the program and essential if
parents are to learn the skills presented in each workshop.
