She is a very young girl completely alone
and on her own in Judson, a pathetic
ghost town in the middle of the West Texas
desert. She is a redhead of titanic propor-
tions, filled with one mission: to bring the
love of Jesus Christ Our Savior Amen to
all the children of the world. Her only
weapons are a wooden cross (with cut
notches for each saved soul), an em-
bossed Bible (kept snowy white with shoe
polish) and the sayings of Corinda Cassy
(founder of the Invincible Traveling Vaca-
tion Bible School Instructor program and
of Cowgirls for Christ, a band of homeless
teenagers marching in formation and
chanting hymns). She is deeply in love--
but doesn t know it--with a lapsed man-
of-the-cloth whose only real friend is a
noisy rooster and who has a burning yen
for coloring books. She is faced with the
urgent need for baptism in a drought area
(which she instantly solves with pre-
moistened towelettes)...she is ashamed
of the touched--up apparition of Jesus on a
screen door (Judson s sole means of sup-
port)...she becomes, through a vision,
the most popular and miraculous faith
healer of all time, whose love for God
overwhelms and annihilates everything
remaining in her short life. She is Principia
Martindale.
