After dinner they walked slowly along Fifth
Avenue. The night was sharply coohthe windows
of the famous stores were as bright and curious
as peacocks.
"A nightcap?" he asked.
"All right, but just a quiet drink."
"My place?"
"All right." His heart vaulted over the Plaza Ho-
tel.
Later in his living room, with music and a drink,
she said, "I love this room." Then she kissed him.
He held her as though she were porcelain.
"Do you always make love with your clothes on?"
she asked.
