The late Surab Sardshweladse, Ph.D. (1973) in Kartvelology, University of Tbilisi, was Professor of Kartvelology at State University of Tbilisi. He especially dealt with Old Georgian and other Kartvelian languages and edited Old Georgian texts.
Heinz Fähnrich, Ph.D. (1970) in Caucasian languages, University of Tbilisi, is Professor of Caucasian Philology at Jena University. His publications cover Georgian, Kartvelian and other Caucasian languages.

This dictionary of old-Georgian by Professors Fähnrich and Sardshweladse (†) fills a long-felt hiatus and opens up for the first time the lexicon of its first seven centuries, viz. the 4th to the 11th centuries A.D.
