How does a deaf woman let the authorities know she is still in an evacuation area without a telephone? How could Emily be missed with all the radio announcements, television broadcasts, and a knock on her door? Now that the mudslides have claimed most of her home Emily is trapped. Her broken wrist and ankle making it impossible to escape while rats find shelter and overtake the kitchen of the home purchased for Emily's grandson Charles. No one knows she has the house and after a search that does not find Emily in Florida her family now believes Emily has gone on one of her excursions.
