It is a fantastic intro to some prominent figures in the patristic period. To understand ancient interpreters, we need to note their context where Greek thought was dominant. The tension and accommodation between philosophy and Christianity are inevitable. The notion that Christianity is the fulfillment of all philosophy originated in this period.

與Early Christianity and Greek Paideia第三至五講可對讀。以前自己太忽視查士丁瞭，雖然讀完覺得第21頁那個並不太高的總結仍然非常閤適；Clement的部分重視“身體”的討論，可惜自己想看教育問題；Origen是全書的亮點，不愧是Contra Celsum譯者，文筆很好把Origen寫得有學問又任性，相比之下Clement簡直是刻闆紳士嘛哈哈~第四講結尾討論Origen與正統的部分值得好好分析。以及書名隻寫這仨人有點對不起貫穿全書的Celsus嗯。查士丁對希臘哲學的吸納談得還不太清楚，是本書一個弱點。瑕不掩瑜，還是非常值得一讀的。
