The focus of this book is on the emerging policy issues that accompany the proliferation of technological innovations in biomedicine. To a large extent, the growing health care funding crisis is tied to the diffusion of biomedical interventions in the last decade. Although there is disagreement as to the extent to which technologies have contributed to the health care crisis, few persons discount their role in increasing costs. Furthermore, as public expectations for access to these highly promising technologies have heightened and interest groups demanding such access have multiplied, biomedical technologies have moved to the center of the health policy agenda.
