This collection of resources gives students access to the most influential scholarship relating to modernism as a set of aesthetic practices and as a product of late modernity. While modernism is often narrowly seen in Anglo-American terms, the articles here pay close attention to the cross fertilization which occurred when modernist artists and writers drew upon indigenous traditions from Africa, Asia, and the Far East. The set also includes papers that explore how modernism was itself drawn upon in these non-western contexts, and writings that analyze the ways in which modernist work informs the practices of artists from outside the West.
