语言非常易懂，讲了很多仪式在建造佛像或者寺庙的过程和意义，包括说到了monotheism, 多个神并没有减少每个神的意义。 Eck这本书写的非常紧凑易懂，一共就100页左右。主要讲了印度去看佛像也是被佛像注视，也就是被神注视。还讲了一些佛像的仪式为了把神请到佛像里。还有iconoclast，与西方完全不一样，毁灭重造也是传统的一部分。说到了像我们这种没有知识的人，需要学习印度的文化知识才能理解佛像。

宗教与视觉的关系在印度教里有很多体现。三大主神眼睛大睁，时刻准备跟朝拜者对视，以为后者实现宗教参与和宗教体验。相比较，同样来自印度的佛教好像更内敛一些，不从感官刺激着手，似乎更讲究精神修行。P.S. darśan的方法论意义或许可以拓展至宗教之外，如对商业和商品的分析。
