Set in an alternate-universe, 1930s metropolis, a hitman trying to reform and an innocent debutante get caught in the middle of a three-way battle for power between the government, a religious sect, and an underworld criminal organization. According to series writer and creator, Jason Rubin, '"Iron and the Maiden" is a cross between a '30s gangster film, "Escape from New York", and "Beauty and the Beast".'
