The discipline of travel medicine has grown in recent years in parallel with the large increase in tourist travel. Travellers frequently visit countries where they face hazards from the climate, the environment or the presence of diseases not encountered at home. Travelling itself may also pose health hazards such as those associated with long-distance flights. Pharmacists and other healthcare professionals thus frequently encounter patients with health problems as a consequence of travel.
