Christiane Moebus (1947) is rated one of the most important contemporary German artists, representing an artistic practice that made an early contribution to the extension of the art concept. Her exhaustive investigation into the current possibilities of sculptural work is both poetic and precise. She is interested in an object's formal and material character, but also in the traces of life that it so often reveals. By combining such found and invented objects in a frequently surprising and remarkable way, she gives them a completely new character. There is something fleeting, even improvised about her objects and installations. Moebus demonstrates a faith in the viewer's associate ability; she intends them to draw their own conclusions and thus enter new spheres of meaning.
