This historical novel is an account of the James-Younger gang, from its innocent days as citizens at the outbreak of the Civil War to the gang's breakup after its fateful Northfield Raid. The book follows the different members through their experiences with Union brutality, their years as Confederate guerillas, and their outlaw years. By the time Cole Younger ends up in prison, the story has moved from freedom to a complete lack of options.
