塞缪尔•约翰逊（1709—1784），英国百科全书式的文坛巨子，集诗人、散文家、文学评论家、传记作家和语言学家于一身，是煊赫古今的英语语言大师。他独力编纂的《英文词典》是史上第一部真正意义上的英语词典。他的书信《致切斯特菲尔德勋爵书》被称作文人的“独立宣言”，至今仍为英语散文最著名的范本之一。
