This study looks at the role of oral storytelling and memory in Scottish culture, tracing the tradition back to earliest times and bringing the reader up-to-date with its presence in contemporary Scotland. Whilst mapping the history of the storytelling tradition in Scotland, the author looks at the wider context of storytelling, Scotland's cultural inheritance, and storytelling's role in shaping Scotland's identity, and the construction of our accepted interpretations of history.
