The first part of this book describes how two young boys started a business that prospered and provided money for their high school, college, medical school, and several years of training. They emerged with a debt of 400 dollars. Today most medical students end their training with debts as high as 200,000 dollars. Is this not a contributing cause for the constant decline in the number of applicants to medical schools? The growing demand for medical care and the decrease of people interested in medicine will soon end up in a crisis in the care of the sick. The second part describes medical education and the post-graduate training of interns, assistant residents and residents, which prepares them to take the examinations to gain board status. Boards in all areas of medicine were created primarily for the public's protection.
