Robert William's historical fiction, Puck, delivers everything fans of the western/mystery genre expect: heroic cowboys, proud Indian tribes, ruthless villains and a satisfying and dramatic conclusion. Filled with unforgettable characters, viscerally powerful imagery and an adventurous and seamless plotline, this fast-paced western takes the reader back to the days of the wild, wild west. Set in the 1890s against the glorious backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming, a highrider, Puckett (Puck), sets out to retrieve a kidnapped, eight year old Shoshoni Indian girl, Papu Banta. When the kidnappers demand a ransom, the governor commissions Puck to revive the cold trail. Puck gathers a posse of sharpshooters, Indian guides, packers and a cook to ride the rough terrain. Along the way, Puck and his team encounter the U.S. Cavalry, a band of Indian braves, and a cast of townspeople who join the search for the elusive whereabouts of the kidnapped girl. A showdown results between Puck and the kidnappers and he has to make quick decisions to save the child, keep the peace with the Shoshoni Indians, and bring Papu Banta home. Set during the turbulent times of distrust and displacement between the Indian culture and the white settlers, Puck reads like a firsthand, factual and enormously entertaining narration.
