Lutherans have a well-developed understanding of justification by grace through faith apart from works. It is the hallmark of their common history and the key doctrine by which the gospel stands or falls. All this is fine and good, Honeycutt maintains, but because of this emphasis upon grace and forgiveness, Lutherans tend to be a bit nervous with conversation about holy living, perhaps fearing that this treads too closely to works righteousness. This book is about sanctification - the relentless life-changing power of the Holy Spirit to encourage actual progress and maturity in the Christian life. With genial style, the author helps readers understand how this overlooked doctrine in basic Lutheran theology complements rather than competes with the core confessions of Lutheran faith and the timeless promises of scripture.
