Estrogen is essential for good health and well being in women of all ages throughout their lives. I have written this book because I want to encourage women who have been on hormone replacement, like me, to consider remaining on it for life as I plan to do. For women who have been scared or hesitant to take estrogen because they are afraid of contracting breast cancer as predicted by the incorrect conclusions of the Women's Health Initiative in 2002, read this book and save your life. Last year my gynecologist told me that I should stop taking estrogen because it is recommended for the shortest amount of time to control symptoms only. I have researched this issue for over a year because I want to make the right decision for me. I have decided to share my findings and experience of long term estrogen use with other women, and men who care for women, because I have discovered that we have been misled and our health and quality of life are at risk. Estrogen Revisited: Lifelong and Fearless is co-authored by Blane Crandall, M.D. Dr. Crandall has been Board Certified in the fields of Family Practice and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been a practicing physician for over thirty years and has written many articles on hormones and is an expert in the field of hormone replacement. He brings to this discussion unique medical credentials and experience treating women throughout their life span. Together, we hope to provide the reader with a balanced discussion of the benefits of hormone replacement. I hope that women will identify with my situation and also my frustration with the conflicting misinformation in the press regarding hormone replacement. Dr. Crandall has combined the natural history of medical disease in women with the data of numerous medical studies to draw the inescapable conclusion that women should take hormones fearlessly and lifelong.
