This book is powerfully written, with striking imagery and an imagination that bursts from the page. Suzanne Harvey takes on enormous subjects: love and death for starters, but also politics and war; art and nature; madness, aging, disease and death; motherhood and mother-in-law-hood; and the gamut of women's roles from wife to mother, from siren to crone. This is a life's work, and as such, it's a mighty accomplishment.
