It offers an insight into the people who played a crucial part in the excavation and shows how the world worked itself into a frenzy of desire for all things Egyptian. The book is augmented by the inclusion of 15 facsimile documents. The documents include: extracts from Howard Carter's diary; photographs taken by Harry Burton at the time of the excavation; Carter's own map of the tomb; and, original drawings by Carter of the mummy and the jewellery that adorned it.
