This volume presents twenty-five of the most recent works by Shilpa Gupta (born in 1976 in Mumbai). Gupta creates works that fuse interactive media with traditional sculptural and photographic elements. Performance plays a major role here, demonstrating the artist's ability to contextualize difficult contemporary subjects and subjectivities, including the importance of personal space, the abrupt changes in our need for security, or the very personal experience of "otherness."Shilpa Gupta is one of India's leading visual artists. Her work has been shown in Tate Modern, London; the Queens Museum and the New Museum, New York; and the Chicago Cultural Center, among many others.
