High risk offenders are those defined as having committed a violent or sexual offence, or are likely to do so. Within the criminal justice system the 'high risk' category is one of the most over assessed, managed and legislated areas and this has been, in part, due to media panics around paedophiles and predators in the community. These offenders, or those considered likely to offend, are now subject to protective procedures which include longer custodial sentences and intrusive and restrictive measures. This book brings together a range of models and material on definitions of 'high risk', research into the management of these offenders as well as the Public Health Approach to offenders, education campaigns and offender treatment.
