This work offers an original approach to a very marketable topic. In this work, the cast of characters is very colourful - from Byron to Hume. It is of use and interest to scholars of both literature and history. This study explores the rise of periodicals as hugely popular repositories of 'public opinion' in the nineteenth century and the key individuals who shaped their own identities through them.
