This dynamic and revealing set shows that in the 21st century we must expand, and are expanding, our definition of diversity to include not only race and ethnicity, but also how it interacts with diversity in gender, sexual orientation, religion and disability. America is far more like a fascinating smorgasbord than a melting pot. Our strength is that people can indeed retain their cultural identities. But our weakness now is that diversity may reduce one's chances for equality in areas from health and education to employment and legal protections. The challenge for people who want a society that honors all groups responsibly and ethically is in establishing equity for all. And while full victory in that challenge has been slow to grow, there are success stories to be shared, and new avenues to be spotlighted.
