Examining recent developments in the relationship between glass and contemporary residential architecture since the early 20th century, this work looks briefly at the work of such innovators as John Lautner and Philip Johnson. An array of contemporary urban and rural houses in which glass plays a central role are presented, showing how glass integrates living spaces with local contexts, provides a strategy for interior illumination, and serves as an interior element in its own right. From a Mack Scogin Merrill Elam homestead in the wilds of Maine to a Parisian atelier by Damien Roland, the dwellings featured in these photographs present cutting-edge designs in all their diversity, as they celebrate this timeless medium.
