威廉·肯尼迪（William Kennedy）
1928年威廉·肯尼迪出生于美国纽约州的奥尔巴尼市。1969年他出版了第一部小说《油墨车》，迄今为止已创作近十部优秀小说。他最为称道的作品当属“奥尔巴尼小说系列”，其中包括《怪腿戴厄蒙》（1975）、《比利·费伦的最大一次赌博》（1978）、《紫苑草》（1983）、《昆因的书》（1988）、《老骨头》（1992）、《燃烧的胸花》（1996》以及《罗斯科》（2002）。
为他赢得普利策文学奖和美国国家书评奖的《紫苑草》在出版前曾先后被退稿十三次，在诺贝尔文学奖得主索尔·贝娄的亲自推荐下，才得以顺利出版。此书出版后立刻造成轰动，改编电影旋即在1987年上映，由杰克·尼克尔森和梅丽尔·斯特里普饰演书中主角，两人并因此片获得奥斯卡奖影帝和影后的提名殊荣。
肯尼迪对于家乡书写的成就甚高，美国著名文化生活杂志《名利场》赞誉：“詹姆斯·乔伊斯之于都柏林，索尔·贝娄之于芝加哥，正如威廉·肯尼迪之于奥尔巴尼。”
