以書寫材料為綫索探討古巴比倫時期的書寫文化，但歸納得有點駁雜，對契約的研究倒是挺深入，但涉及國際交往的信件以及“關牒”之類的材料又隻是窮舉一般的簡單討論瞭，要說王室銘文也算書寫文化，對王權的錶徵這又是一個大題目，真要對銘文展開討論這小書怎麼講得完？總之像是想到啥寫啥，看起來不太係統。或者可以把本書視為一個不完全的指南——做古巴比倫文獻學研究可以從哪些角度進行。
