算是青春啓濛讀物，苦悶單調的中學生活中為數不多的慰藉，不知道看過多少次，以至於有些地方都可以背過。當時羨慕的是故事中人物自由的生活狀態，但還不太能理解故事的走嚮和人物命運，感覺直子綠子初美永澤都不像是現實中的人物，現實中我看到的每個人正常得不得瞭。十年後，生活讓我慢慢看到瞭每一個人，纔發現這是村上為數不多的“現實小說”。此外，英譯本和中譯本相比簡直像另外一本書。英譯本語言簡潔爽脆，相比之下林少華的語言過於甜膩瞭。至於村上本人的語言風格如何，隻能留給懂日語的人評價瞭，連翻譯自己都說“When you read Haruki Murakami, you’re reading me, at least ninety-five per cent of the time.”
