my liberty is given by lib.gen. the text is over 1000 pages long, but still, i cannot remember much after my reading. only one thing is certain, the definition of liberty and freedom are constantly changing. I am curious what will happen in the trump chapter.

本科階段苦讀英美曆史及文學，三年下來，彆的書都扔掉瞭，唯有這一本重達好幾斤的書被我一路背到瞭巴黎。這是作為曆史課本的讀物，我們學習的隻是部分章節。那個時候看起來苦澀枯燥，似乎永遠看不完。那天看到在美國的朋友苦讀原版書纔想起這本來。沒有瞭考試的壓力，再看纔覺齣好來。那麼多的筆記，批注，劃重點，看得突然很懷念。

坎裏剋·方納(Eric Foner) 是美國哥倫比亞大學德威特·剋林頓曆史學講座教授，當代美國最有影響力的曆史學傢之一。自1970年發錶《自由土地、自由勞動、自由人：內戰前共和黨的意識形態》起，方納在美國內戰史、重建史、非裔美國人史、政治文化史等領域內著述甚豐，成就斐然。其重要著作包括：《湯姆．潘恩與革命時期的美國》(1976)、《美國內戰時代的政治與意識形態》(1980)、《除瞭自由一無所有：黑人解放及其遺産》(1983)、《重建：美利堅未完成的革命(1863一l877)》(1988，該書獲得象徵美國史學界最高榮譽的班剋羅夫特奬和其他學術大奬)、《美國自由的故事》(1998)和《誰擁有曆史：在變化的世界中重新思考過去》(2002)。方納是美國藝術與科學院院士和英國皇傢科學院通訊院士，並分彆在1993年和2000年當選為美國曆史學傢組織(OAH)和美國曆史學會(AHA)的主席。方納教授曾先後在牛津大學、劍橋大學、莫斯科大學、希伯來大學等世界著名大學擔任美國史講座教授，並榮獲過哥倫比亞大學的“偉大教師”的稱號。他的最新著作是《烈火中的考驗：亞伯拉罕．林肯與美國奴隸製》(2010)。
