尼古拉斯·A. 巴斯贝恩（Nicholas A. Basbanes），1943年生于美国马萨诸塞州的洛厄尔，曾任海军军官、记者和文学编辑，现居马萨诸塞州的北格拉夫顿。1999年因写就《文雅的疯狂》一跃成为知名专栏作家，被誉为“关于书之书的权威作者”。除本书外，其他主要作品有：《文雅的疯狂》（A Gentle Madness,1999）、《疯雅书中事》（Among the Gently Mad,2002）、《文字的辉煌》（A Splendor of Letters,2004）、《读者有其书》（Every Book Its Reader，2005）、《版本及印次》（Editions & Impressions,2007）、《文字的世界》（A World of Letters,2008）、《关于作者》（About the Author,2010）等。
