紮迪·史密斯（査蒂·史密斯）（Zadie Smith1975—）當代英國最具影響力的作傢之一，奧蘭治（Orange）奬得主,入選2003年英國著名文學雜誌《Granta》10年評選一次的“英國20位最佳青年作傢”。在多族裔混居的北倫敦長大，父親為英國白人，母親帶有牙買加黑人血統。

査蒂6歲就開始寫詩，創作短篇小說。不過，她童年時的夢想並不是當作傢，而是做跳踢踏舞的舞蹈傢。

中學時，査蒂似乎不是那種有遠大抱負的好學生。她把絕大部分課餘時間都用在閱讀和交友上，還抽過大麻。當她告訴老師自己想申請劍橋時，老師直接告訴她這想法太荒謬，太不切閤實際。然而，她果真如願來到瞭劍橋大學研究英語文學。在劍橋國王學院，她整天沉浸在小說的世界裏，從她喜愛的作傢如福斯特、塞林格和馮內古特那裏學習寫作的技巧和審美情趣。上高中和大學時，她還曾靠在酒吧做爵士樂歌手打工賺錢。

査蒂·史密斯是一位喜歡挑戰正統的個性作傢。她的這一性格從年少時改名一事就已顯露齣來。她原來叫Sadie，14歲時自作主張改成瞭Zadie，在英語中，S音更柔和，而Z音則響亮些，更有個性，也更有異國情調。
