花了两个月时间才啃完，对我来说生词太多了。贝林教授在书中引用了大量18世纪各种政治家的话，强调革命的思想意识变化，最终指出美国革命理论是一个推陈出新的过程，依托英国特殊的自由传统和殖民地独特的生活情形，创造了一个崭新的理论。

关于美国独立与建立，有着许多的解释；关于美国革命，由众多的人进行关注和研究，但是在中国，我们长期以来只知道一种解释。但是这种解释慢慢地无法令人信服？大英帝国没有残酷地剥削他们的殖民地人，甚至对待他们比对待其自己的本土臣民都好，那么究竟是什么原因导致这场不可思议的历史事件呢？贝林的研究，是一种不同的视角。“共和修正派”的解释不能取代帝国学派等，但是他的解释可以给我们一种耳目一新的感觉。抱歉，即便如此，这也是美国三四十年前的看法了。我们真的很落后么？

伯纳德·贝林

哈佛大学亚当斯大学（AdamsUniversity）讲座教授兼早期美国史詹姆斯·邓肯·菲利普（James Duncan Philips）讲座教授，是诸多美国历史著作的作者，包括《托马斯·哈钦森的苦难历程》（The Ordeal of Thomas Hutchinson，Harvard，1974），该书获得了历史著作中的国家图书奖，以及《渡海西行的人》（Voyagers to the West，1986），该书跟《美国革命的思想意识渊源》一样，获得了普利策历史图书奖。

In it he discusses the intense, nation-wide debate on the ratification of the constitution, stressing the continuities between that struggle over the foundations of the national government and the original principles of the Revolution. This study of the persistence of the nation's ideological origins adds a new dimension to the book and projects its meaning forward into vital present concerns. Bailyn is author of "The Ordeal of Thomas Hutchinson" which won the National Book Award and "Voyagers to the West" which won the Pulitzer Prize for History.
