用書信方式展開瞭一對黑人姐妹的一生，語言著實樸實無華但直到最後的結尾纔有些許感動。把時間拉長到一生的長度，也許並沒有什麼是過不去的，無論是曾經恨過的人還是曾經艱難無比的事，迴頭看都是坦然，人生的修煉在於當時的經曆。不嚴謹的英文反而更不好讀。

小艾最愛的書

這本書寫得好嗎？細節的臻選和情節的搭建都技法純熟。然而在《魂斷威尼斯》之後讀它，真是覺得索然無味。仔細一想，這本書寫得太“實”瞭，看似貼著現實寫，卻絲毫未提供超越現實的輕盈，再加上是書信體，人物有聲音而無形象，有敘事而無分析，讀起來實在是索然無味。可能我還是更喜歡具有隱喻層次的寫作。

讀這本書的感覺就像是壓抑的陰雨天逐漸放晴，最後陽光燦爛。想到的：1.slavery is everywhere,you have to fight and free your own soul.2.love is boundless and in various form.3.people do change and you have to put faith on it and ready to forgive.4.power game never work in marriage, the moment you win, you lose.5,by understanding and respecting women, men can live more happily.
