Bryson visits Kenya at the invitation of CARE International, the charity dedicated to eradicating poverty. Kenya is a land of contrasts, with famous game reserves and a vibrant culture. It also provides plenty to worry a traveller like Bill Bryson, fixated as he is on the dangers posed by snakes, insects and large predators. It is also a country with many serious problems: refugees, AIDS, drought, and grinding poverty. 评分如果不是考虑到号称是慈善性质，收入全部捐给非洲，这本书简直就是作弊，比尔收了人家钱去非洲游了8天，胡乱凑了一篇，实在太薄了出版商自己都不好意思定位为一本“书”，又加了些别的书的节选。
