Bryson visits Kenya at the invitation of CARE International, the charity dedicated to eradicating poverty. Kenya is a land of contrasts, with famous game reserves and a vibrant culture. It also provides plenty to worry a traveller like Bill Bryson, fixated as he is on the dangers posed by snakes, insects and large predators. It is also a country with many serious problems: refugees, AIDS, drought, and grinding poverty. 评分真的隻是八天的短篇日記啊……根本不過癮。看看肯尼亞的貧民窟，我在盧旺達鄉下能洗澡簡直太幸福瞭。雖然要自己打一盆冷水，叼著手電去小黑屋洗，並且小黑屋和廁所是連通的，臭氣熏天，蒼蠅圍繞。當然瞭，廁所就是個洞……
